How much will the counselling cost?

Sessions cost 45 each. However Compass is a charity rather than a business and we aim to provide counselling to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Therefore we offer a sliding scale of fees, and we have a fund to provide assistance to those who are unwaged.

  • Which models of Counselling do you offer?

    Compass offers:
    • One to one open-ended once weekly psychodynamic psychotherapy
    • One to one short term psychodynamic therapy: up to 12 weekly sessions with an agreed and specific focus
    • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT): 6-8 individual weekly sessions addressing thinking patterns and styles

Psychodynamic counselling is an in-depth talking therapy which works towards understanding the person you have come to be, by looking at influences from your past, including on an unconscious level.

CBT is a shorter-term strategy which aims to turn negative, self-defeating thinking processes into more positive, constructive ones.

These two different approaches may suit different personalities or different issues, or may be combined in one therapy according to your individual needs. You're welcome to ask us more about this when you come to Compass for your Initial Consultation.

At present, we are unable to offer group, couple, or family counselling.

Will you help me decide which model is best for me?

Before offering therapy sessions we will arrange an initial consultation interview, of around 90 minutes, to explore your needs and expectations and whether the services we offer could help you. We will then be able to recommend what we believe will be the most appropriate approach for you. Sometimes a further consultation may be necessary before we are able to make a final recommendation.

In that case we will recommend alternative approaches that you may want to consider.
